Fanon (2025): Film Screening + Discussion

  • Logan Center for the Arts 915 East 60th Street Chicago, IL, 60637 United States (map)

The Logan Center for the Arts will host a special screening of Fanon (France/Algeria, 2025), a 113-minute feature film directed by Jean-Claude Flamand-Barn, followed by a 30-minute public panel discussion. Panelist will include Peter Hudis, author of the book Frantz Fanon: Philosopher of the Barricades and Haitian scholar/activist, Dr. William Balan-Gaubert, lecturer at University of Chicago.

Fanon is a powerful cinematic portrait of Frantz Fanon—psychiatrist, revolutionary thinker, and author of The Wretched of the Earth—whose work continues to shape global conversations on colonialism, racialized violence, psychological trauma, and liberation. Rather than presenting Fanon as historical artifact, the film positions him as a living framework for understanding power, resistance, and the afterlives of empire.

The screening comes at a moment of renewed global unrest, rising authoritarianism, and urgent debates around protest, state power, and political consciousness. By situating Fanon’s ideas within both historical struggle and contemporary conditions, the film invites audiences to confront how colonial logics persist in modern governance, policing, and cultural life.

The event is organized by Floyd Webb, filmmaker, writer, and founder of Blacknuss.tv, in partnership with Peter Kuttner, legendary Chicago documentarian and activist, and Professor Hunter Adams, educator and advocate for African-centered science and political education. Together, the partners frame the screening as both a cultural event and a public forum—an opportunity to think collectively about the relevance of Fanon’s work today.

Doors open at 6:30 PM, with opening remarks beginning at 6:55 PM. The film will start promptly at 7:10 PM, followed by a moderated panel discussion.

This screening is open to the public and intended for students, scholars, artists, organizers, and anyone engaged with questions of power, justice, and political memory.
